YIVTOL was among the leading eVTOL developers featured at the recent Aero Asia exhibition in Zhuhai, showcasing its position in the growing personal aerial mobility sector.
The company has obtained what it recognizes as the first special flight permit for an ultralight eVTOL under China's CCAR-91 Chapter O regulations for its single-seat S-Zero model. In a key step toward operational readiness, YIVTOL also finalized a comprehensive insurance package with China CR Insurance in October, covering hull, passenger, and third-party liability for future demonstration and scenic flights.
Co-founder Chen Yuan reported that the S-Zero has completed an extensive wind wall and wind tunnel testing program, described as a global first for an aircraft in this category. Conducted in Shenzhen, the tests subjected the prototype to controlled wind conditions from Beaufort scale 2 to 7, assessing its stability, structural integrity, and control system performance under realistic gusts and turbulence.
"The successful completion of these tests under simulated real-world conditions is a critical validation of the S-Zero's safety and reliability," said Chen. "The data collected is fundamental for our upcoming flight test campaign and eventual safe commercial operation."
The S-Zero features a folding quad-arm, eight-rotor design for portability. Its simplified operation includes one-click start, takeoff, and landing, supported by multiple flight modes. Safety elements comprise a titanium alloy frame, an integrated airbag, and a parachute system. Its semi-solid-state battery supports a two-minute quick-swap and incorporates advanced management and encapsulation technology.
Looking ahead, YIVTOL is developing its fourth-generation model, the S-One. This design maintains a folding lightweight architecture but introduces a four-ducted-fan propulsion system and a carbon fiber primary structure to meet the sub-116 kg ultralight classification. The S-One will also feature an autonomous flight management system for navigation, obstacle avoidance, and automated takeoff and landing.
Both aircraft share key performance parameters: a maximum speed of 70 km/h, 30 minutes of flight time, a 35 km range, and a 100 kg payload capacity.
YIVTOL identifies low-altitude sports and tourism as initial applications, with a longer-term vision for integration into broader urban air mobility ecosystems and future low-altitude hubs. The company states that securing insurance and scaling production are essential next steps in transitioning from demonstrations to wider commercial availability.
