Shenzhen, a pioneer in China's reform and opening-up, is accelerating the development of an enterprise-driven innovation system that deeply integrates industry, academia, and research. In a recent CCTV feature on the city's booming sci-tech ecosystem, YIVTOL and ENGINEAI were highlighted as two of the standout players advancing low-altitude mobility and robotic applications.

From eVTOL aircraft charting the course for urban air mobility to smart robots enabling automation across sectors, new quality productive forces are reshaping Shenzhen's economic landscape—turning sci-fi-like visions of a "city of the future" into reality.

HUMANOID ROBOTS GATHER IN SHENZHEN

As a national hub for high-tech development, Shenzhen is leveraging technology as the core and real-world scenarios as the driver, transforming the city into a live testing ground for AI and robotics.

ENGINEAI, a Shenzhen-based company, impressed at the 2025 World Humanoid Robot Games with a dynamic street dance performance at the opening ceremony. "Here in Shenzhen, suppliers can arrive on-site within an hour to provide the components we need, enabling rapid prototyping and accelerating the validation of our technology," said Yao Qiyuan, Head of Marketing at ENGINEAI, in an interview with CCTV.

By the end of 2024, Shenzhen was home to 74,032 robotics industry cluster enterprises. The total output value of its robotics industry chain reached RMB 201.2 billion in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 12.58%, ranking first in China.

LOW-ALTITUDE ECONOMY TAKES FLIGHT WITH YIVTOL

Shenzhen is also striving to become the "Global Low-Altitude Economy Capital," with continuous policy support and rapid innovation flow helping tech companies like YIVTOL scale quickly and explore new applications.

YIVTOL collaborated with Beihang Universitx'qy and Shenzhen University to develop the world's first swappable, foldable ultra-light eVTOL. "Shenzhen introduced the nation's first low-altitude economy legislation, providing a legal foundation for sustainable development," said Lin Cong, Co-founder of YIVTOL. "It offers an excellent environment for innovative companies like ours."

Benefiting from government support, the company has successfully connected with global partners and received overseas orders. "Our international clients were simply amazed," Lin added.

To date, Shenzhen has gathered over 1,900 companies in the low-altitude economy industrial chain. The sector's output value exceeded RMB 90 billion in 2024, putting the city in a leading position globally.

According to the Shenzhen Low-Altitude Infrastructure High-Quality Construction Plan (2024-2026), the city aims to launch over 1,000 low-altitude commercial routes by the end of 2026, with the low-altitude economy projected to exceed RMB 130 billion in scale.

A future shaped by technology is steadily becoming reality in Shenzhen, driven by innovators like YIVTOL and ENGINEAI.
